In celebration of Black History Month, Zamina will honor and recognize some of the contributions of African immigrants in the United States. Today we acknowledge and give homage to the legacy of Trevor Noah, who has used his platform to bring laughter, joy, and insight to the world.

With a laugh that knows no borders and a talent that knows no limits, Trevor Noah has captured the hearts and minds of millions around the world. Born to a black Xhosa mother, Patricia Nombuyiselo Noah, and white father Robert Noah. Trevor Noah was raised by his mother and grandmother, Frances “Gogo” Noah in black township Soweto. The Johannesburg-born comedian has used his unique upbringing under apartheid South Africa to bring laughter and insight to the world.

‍Trevor Noah’s rise to fame began with hosting the South African talk show “Tonight with Trevor Noah.” In September of 2015, he took the reins of “The Daily Show” and quickly established himself as a vital voice in today’s political climate, using his incisive wit and humor to bridge cultural divides and bring important issues to the forefront. Noah’s numerous comedy specials and bestselling memoir “Born a Crime” have only added to his growing legacy in the entertainment world.

His star continues to rise, and he remains one of the most important voices in comedy today.
