Grammy award winning Artiste Stevie Wonder Receives Ghanaian citizenship

The multi-Grammy award winning artiste’s move to Ghana was backed by his Ghanaian citizenship which was officially issued to him through a citizenship certificate on his arrival to the West African Nation on Monday.

 3 years later, Legendary Stevie wonder and his lovely wife and family finally arrived for an extended or possibly permanent stay in Ghana. Not just as visitors, but as official citizens. A decision that the songster made back in 2021.

The multi-Grammy award winning artiste’s move to Ghana was backed by his Ghanaian citizenship which was officially issued to him through a citizenship certificate on his arrival to the West African Nation on Monday.

And his arrival was a mini festival in itself, as he was greeted with cheers and loud noise, dancing and singing and playing of loud African percussion instruments at the Kotoka International Airport where he landed.

Stevie was welcomed by some representatives from the Diaspora Affairs Office, and local dance and performance troupes.

In an interview that has since regained viewership in Ghana and the Ghanaian diaspora and the African diaspora as well, Stevie speaks to Oprah Winfrey about his plans to move to Africa and the political reasons behind the move to permanently relocate to Ghana back in 2021.

“I wanna see this nation smile again. And I want to see it before I leave to travel to move to Ghana because I’m going to do that.” He mentioned in the interview.

In his submission, he mentioned some of the in justices around the Americas and his own experiences and choices towards protecting his children from them. Moreover his sense of community resounds he claimed to find more of in Ghana than in the United States of America.

"I guess it's just the lineage I felt Ghana, I felt my civilization was there and I was there where it began. So, I thank all of you so very much. I always say this is the beginning, [the best part of the rest of my life got to do God's promised," Stevie Wonder.

“I don’t want to see my children’s children’s children have to say, ‘Oh please like me. Please respect me, please know that I am important, please value me.’ What is that?” he added.

The multi-talented singer, and musician-activist has always stood out for his unique perspective in music, from the rich soulful music to the lyrical prowess, to the skillful playing of the keyboard or piano.

More still, Stevie Wonder who goes by the official name Stevland Hardaway Morris learnt and developed his musicianship from such a young age.

However, one of the forks in the road for him was going blind. Interestingly, it did not stop him from doing what he did best and by 1961 he was signed to Motown records. He has since won 25 Grammys and had about 74 nominations to the same.
